Goals all millennial lady bosses should add to their five year plan

All of us are different. We’re all unique and lead very different lives, and each of us have our own ideas about what’s important to us, and goals we’d like to reach.

However, there are a few things that just about all of us would be proud to achieve, and that would genuinely make our lives better.

So to all our millennial lady bosses out there who want to get smart with life and money, here's some advice for you, sister.

Save for a house

Younger generations are buying less houses than generations gone by. Student debt and a high cost of living means home ownership is not only frightening but for many of us, it’s quite simply been out of our reach. With the economic climate recovering, and more and more government schemes being put into place making acquiring a home more affordable for first time buyers, it’s becoming more of a possibility again. Start saving as soon as you can, even if it takes you many years to reach the amount needed for a deposit, you’ll look back and be so glad that you did. Later down the line things might have improved even more, so have money in the bank saved and ready to go. You could even look into having your own home built from scratch, companies like Rawson Homes have been delivering this service for years. Perfect if you want something you can really customise.

It might take you years, but saving for a house gives you purpose and direction.

Pass your driving test

It’s a fact- millennials aren’t driving until later than generations gone by. They’re also buying less cars. One reason for this is as a generation, we tend to prefer living in large cities where having your own vehicle is less essential. And again, finances prevent many millennials from becoming drivers early on, since insurance costs are way up. Even if you live in a big city with lots of transport now, this might not always be the case. It’s always worth passing your tests so you can drive if you need to, even if it’s later down the line.

It could improve your job prospects and gives you so much independence too.

Get established in your career

Research shows that millennial's are very career focused. While we tend to put career progression as a top priority, things don’t always go the way we planned. Figures suggest that millennial's tend to job hop and resign much more freely than older employees. Set goals for your career and do what you can to work towards them. If a job isn’t working out for you or getting you to where you need to be then there’s nothing wrong with leaving to find something else. But don’t give up at the first hurdle, and be realistic in what you expect. Having a side hustle or another stream of income is also well worth doing, and now we live in such an online age it’s easier to do this than ever. It could even help you build skills that will come in useful in your main career.
