6 ways exercise will change your life

At this time of the year, many of us are thinking about the changes that we’d like to make. We’re looking for ways to be fitter in the New Year. We’re thinking about adapting to a more positive outlook, being more productive, losing weight and making lifestyle changes. It’s the perfect time to do it. There’s no better full stop for bad habits than the end of a year, and no better time to set yourself some goals than the start of a new one.

One of the best ways to meet your goals, and make the changes that you want is to find something that has a significant impact on your life. Regular exercise in any form is bound to make you happier. Whether it's swimming, boxing, yoga classes or joining the local netball team, here are six ways your life will improve.

You’ll Be Stronger

Yoga or pilates will give you strength you've not known before. They're not always the best for weight loss, but teamed with regular cardio workouts, they can support a healthy lifestyle and help you to keep your weight healthy.

If you imagine yoga to be all deep breathing and light stretching, you are wrong. Holding the right poses, and using your muscles in the right way is difficult, especially as a beginner. Yoga can quickly start to lengthen and strengthen your muscles, which will, in turn, improve your cardio performance and stamina.

Your Posture Will Improve

Weight training and yoga will work your back and your core muscles. Regular practice will improve your posture enormously. You’ll stand straighter and taller, and in no time you will find that your back naturally finds the right position, without you having to push it there, eliminating aches and pains.

Your Confidence Will Improve

Most of us struggle with our confidence at least some of the time. Yoga can be a big help. You’ll feel as though you are doing something for yourself. To look after yourself. This is great for your confidence. Standing straight and tall can also be a big confidence boost.

You’ll Meet Some Great People

Going to to gym or joining a sports club can also be great for your social life. You'll meet people from all walks of life and might even make some great friends out of it.

You'll Feel Calmer

An awful lot of us are stressed out a lot of the time. We lead busy lives, we’re always on the go, and we find it increasingly hard to relax. Exercise can be a big help. It’s time to be away from your phone and your work emails. A chance to relax and unwind, focusing only on the movements of your body. Exercise can be a kind of meditation that helps you navigate the stresses of life.

You'll Sleep Better

Better posture, increased activity, and less stress will all help you to get a good night's sleep. Getting in at least half an hour of exercise, 3 times a week will help you switch off and sleep soundly at the end of the day. You'll most likely also find that your quality of sleep will improve too!
