“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness., and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.” ~ Mark Twain
When we're on holiday we let our stress and worry melt away, we're more active, we feel and sleep better. For millions, it's these few weeks in the year that we can kick back and let life’s worries pass us by.
Some research by Dr Filep in 2010 found that going on holiday is one of the three main contributors to happiness. And happiness helps you live longer.
Scotland
Brimming with history and beauty, Scotland is the ideal UK getaway. It has excellent transport links from any of the airports, and unless you want to head deep into the countryside, you’ll not be hard pushed to find a bus route. The cities are busy and vibrant with a great cross-section of people, and the highlands and islands are a welcome break from everyday life. There are castle trails and plenty of golf courses too. The landscape will continue to take your breath away, and it has some of the best-priced destinations you can find.
Canada
If you're looking for the friendliest place in the world to visit - then Canada is the place to go. Although French is the official language, English is spoken just about everywhere. It doesn’t matter in which month you choose to visit there is plenty to do. If you are an avid wildlife fan, then you might like to head to Brunswick, they have a whale-watching hub that may just give you the opportunity to experience these beautiful animals up close.
If that isn’t enough for you, then the Candian landscape is so stunning that it almost looks like an oil painting - the likes of Bob Ross would be proud of.
“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard
Spain
There's a reason so many people retire here. Sun, sea, sand and the laid back lifestyle is something that is appealing to many. In fact, a massive 27% of the country is English speaking too - making it an easy place to see. It has excellent travel links, with a plentiful amount of tourists. If you're worried about the language barrier while you are on holiday, then this is the place for you.
Italy
If wine and pasta are your thing, then Italy is your country. You can stay in a private villa high in the Tuscan mountains, or one of the very many luxury hotels in the cities. Tuscany does provide the perfect base, with Pisa, Lucca, Florence and more very easy to get to. It is worth noting that the museums and tour usually book up pretty quickly so you’ll have to book in advance and if you need assistance then make sure that you let the guides know.
Italy is perfect for lovers of decadence, history, food and exquisite fashion.
Hawaii
They say that some places have the perfect climate and Hawaii is one of them. You can go whale watching, and see dolphins spin and splash out in the open ocean on a cruise. If you enjoy being active, then you can also hop in the water with turtles and other marine life too. And due to the cultural melting pot that Hawaii is, the food comes from China, Vietnam, Korea, Italy, Thailand, Mexico and Portugal. It truly is a place to destress and indulge.
Seychelles
If you're in love with adventure and long to explore, then the Seychelles will give you all of the opportunity to do so. If you want to make the most of your time there, then planning some plane and ferry rides in to help you island-hop will be ideal. The Seychelles boasts an incredible 65 beaches on the island of Mahe alone. Hopping between the 115 islands has never been easier than it is now, and it is undoubtedly worth it. You can opt for luxurious 5-star hotels, or more simple accommodations depending on your budget and experience you are looking for.
Before you book your flights, make sure you look in travel insurance, and if traveling with parents or grandparents, get seniors travel insurance information, so you know where you stand should anything happen.
