Expert reveals the biggest germ spreader in your home and how to clean it

Maree Gauci, CEO of DuroKleen shares how to keep germs at bay in your home

There are two types of people on this earth – those who hate to clean and those (me) who find it

therapeutic, enjoyable and totally satisfying.

I like to clean my house all at once but for some doing it in small spurts makes more sense.

Now more than ever, keeping our homes as clean as possible and germ-free is a top priority, here's how:

Always Disinfect!

Disinfecting is really important when you have a house full of people (and even when you don’t). Germs are very easy to spread so by wiping all common areas with a disinfectant you will reduce the chance of illness. When choosing a disinfectant, the key chemicals we recommend against in the home are alcohol, chlorine, triclosan, and formaldehyde.

Ensure your disinfectant is non-toxic, non-flammable (no alcohol) and long lasting. DuroKleen & DuroPax both meet that criteria. DuroPax for cleaning and disinfecting (use as you would a multipurpose), DuroKleen for longer term disinfecting and solving your mould issues.

Clean your air conditioner filter!

Air conditioners and heaters are perfect for keeping us comfortable but when left unmanaged, they contribute to the spread of bacteria and viruses.

Unmonitored, bacteria and viruses are recycled through the air and redistributed into the rooms reinfecting people and surfaces.

Cleaning filters and applying a disinfectant to the filter provides additional and on going protection that kills bacteria and viruses on impact.

Filters can be easily cleaned in four easy steps: Wash the filter – spray DuroKleen – let it dry and install. This can be done in your car as well.

It’s all in the stroke

Don’t clean your surfaces in a circle (like your mother taught you), you’re only going over the clean surfaces with your dirty cloth and respreading the dirt and bacteria.

When you spray your product onto the surface, spray it in a zig zag (or an S shape), then wipe in the same direction, this way you’re wiping and dragging the dirt all the way to the bottom.

Patience is a virtue

Always ensure that you let a product do its job. If you’re cleaning really dirty surfaces spray the surface and let it sit for a few minutes before you wipe clean. It's especially important to do this when you’re disinfecting. Most products need time to cure so be patient.
