5 reasons you need a career change

You spend your entire time in school being told that you have to choose an avenue to go down for the rest of your life. School is basically one long series of choices. You have to close your eyes and hope you made the right choices wherever you go, because if you choose one wrong turn you have to go back and start again - which isn’t always easy to do. The thing is, at 17 you’re required to get permission to the bathroom while you’re in school and then at 18 the world demands you decide what you want to do for a living.
It’s baffling to have such high expectations of these young people, and yet expect we do!
The one good thing about being ushered into a career decision is that you can know pretty early on that this doesn’t have to be the case for the rest of your life. Sometimes, a career change is not a choice, particularly when you’ve chosen a trade and construction accidents happen. Something like that can make you want to change your mind about your future pretty quickly.
People so often stay in a job they don't completely love for fear of change or not liking the job you move into.
Here are some good reasons to change your path:
You want to!
If you really WANT a change, you shouldn't deprive yourself of it. Life is too short not to go after what you want.
You Don’t Feel Challenged.
Life is hard, but it’s harder when your job bores you. If you aren’t getting the right mental stimulation, you can find yourself quickly bored and ready to give in for the day. It doesn’t matter much if you like the people that you work with if you can’t stand the job you’re doing.
You Need A Break.
Mental health is just as important as your job, and sometimes you need to take some time to reassess your goals and choose another way to go. Take a year out and travel - if you have the savings - as it can really cleanse your soul to get away from the working word for a while.
You Start To Hate The Job.
What you loved to do when you first left university may not be the same thing ten years later - and that’s okay! You change as you grow and that sometimes means choosing something else to do for a living.
You’re Not Happy.
We spend most of our week in the workplace. Why on earth would you want to spend eight hours a day somewhere that makes you miserable? All that happens is you end up resenting what you do and who you work with. Again, life is too short to be doing something that doesn't make you happy!
Your life may be run by what you can afford, but that doesn’t mean that you have to stay miserable to pay the bills. Find out what you want to do and pursue it with vigour.
